JER_8519 Ahead of the conference, Michael Cohen (MT/PES), who is also acting chairman of the CoR's Commission for Natural Resources (NAT), stressed that, "It is crucial that we all work together to fight cancer in Europe." He went on to say that the European Partnership is, "a prime example of the ways in which raising awareness about cancer prevention in Europe can be achieved."

The Partnership provides a framework for identifying and sharing information, capacity and expertise in cancer prevention and control, with the long-term goal of reducing the incidence of cancer across the EU by 15% by 2020. With 33-44% of all cancers estimated to be preventable, promoting healthy living is at the heart of the Partnership's work with the CoR focusing mainly on the issue of health promotion and cancer prevention.
